Parent Baby Spaces Framework Preview
A Shared Professional Framework for Emotionally Safe, Professionally Held Parent and Baby Spaces
Our Belief
Every family deserves the opportunity to choose a parent and baby space that is emotionally safe, professionally held, and committed to continual learning.
Why Parent Baby Spaces Exists
Every day, thousands of parents, babies and families attend parent and baby services across the UK — baby classes, family hubs, health services, charities, community groups and independent practitioners.
For many parents, these spaces become far more than somewhere to attend an activity. They become places where confidence grows, relationships are formed, and families discover they are not alone.
The quality of these experiences matters — not only because of the activities provided, but because of the culture behind them. Parents often have little information about the professional standards or ongoing development behind the spaces they attend. Parent Baby Spaces was created to change that — giving families greater confidence in the spaces they choose, and giving practitioners a shared professional home to grow within.
The Six Principles
1. Parents deserve emotionally safe spaces. Every parent deserves to feel welcomed, respected, listened to and valued — especially during one of life's most significant transitions.
2. Babies deserve to be respected as individuals. Every baby is unique. Professionally held spaces seek to understand babies rather than expecting babies to adapt to practice — connection is valued above performance.
3. Families deserve practitioners who never stop learning. Professional learning doesn't end with qualification. Families benefit from practitioners who stay curious and reflective throughout their careers.
4. Families deserve practitioners who work with integrity. Trust is built through honesty, clear professional boundaries, and knowing when another professional is better placed to help.
5. Families deserve professionals who learn together. No single practitioner, profession or organisation holds every answer. Knowledge grows stronger when it's shared generously.
6. Families deserve a profession committed to continual improvement. Professional excellence isn't a destination — it's an ongoing commitment to learning, reflection and growth.
Accessibility, Representation and Belonging
Inclusion begins long before a family walks through the door — with the language they read, the images they see, and whether they can recognise themselves in the spaces they're invited into.
Parent Baby Spaces is proud to work alongside The Accessible Parenting Network (APN) as our disability specialist partner for accessibility and inclusion. The Parent Baby Spaces Framework incorporates accessibility guidance developed by The Accessible Parenting Network, recognising accessibility for disabled parents as an integral part of creating emotionally safe, welcoming spaces for all families.
As part of Recognition, practitioners are asked to engage with APN guidance and attend at least one APN webinar each year, exploring disability terminology, accessibility and creating welcoming spaces for disabled parents.
No practitioner can know everything about every family, culture, disability or life experience. Professional confidence is demonstrated not by having all the answers, but by listening well, asking respectful questions, and remaining willing to learn.
Shaped by Expertise
The Parent Baby Spaces Framework isn't built in isolation. It's guided by an Advisory Circle of specialists across safeguarding, accessibility and inclusion, early years practice, occupational therapy, cultural responsiveness, and reflective practice — offering independent challenge and expertise to keep the Framework grounded, current and credible.
What This Means in Practice
For Organisations & Training Providers — Alignment Alignment is a public commitment to embedding these Principles within your culture, training or services. It doesn't replace your expertise — it strengthens your offer with a shared professional benchmark, backed by an Advisory Circle of sector specialists.
For Individual Practitioners — Recognition Recognition is a voluntary, personal commitment to these Principles — supported by Professional Foundations (qualifications, safeguarding, insurance, CPD), ongoing learning through our community on Skool, funded training opportunities, and a professional directory listing that helps parents choose you with confidence.
